Emergency Basic Needs Support

Description: United Way works to build long term stability while giving people the help they need during crisis.

United Way of Westchester and Putnam administers the Federal Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP), which helps stabilize families in times of crisis by providing emergency food, shelter and utility and rent assistance.

The EFSP and other United Way funds are used to reimburse a net of service providers when new families come to them seeking food or utility assistance, as well as to help fund short-term emergency shelter for families in crisis such as a house fire or domestic violence.

Advocacy: The EFSP funds are determined by the federal government. You can lend your voice to ensure people receive emergency food and shelter.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call United Way’s 2-1-1.
