United Way Distributes $125,000 Worth of Bombas Underwear to Local Nonprofits

United Way of Westchester and Putnam gave away 5,000 pairs of Bombas underwear between March 27th and March 31st.

Through United Way of Westchester and Putnam’s Essential Goods for Basic Needs program, 50 boxes of men’s and women’s Bombas underwear was distributed to 20 nonprofit organizations. This hallmark donation is valued at $125,000.

Bombas is a comfort-focused basics apparel brand with a mission to help those in need. For every item purchased, a specially-designed item is donated. United Way of Westchester and Putnam has received socks to donate to nonprofit organizations through Bombas in 2023 and 2024. This is the first year United Way of Westchester and Putnam received underwear—a vital necessity for individuals in need.

The Matthew Wallace Foundation is deeply grateful to Bombas for their generous underwear donation,” said Jeni Wallace, Executive Director, “This thoughtful contribution was warmly received by our Matt’s Grab-n-Go clients—many of whom are working hard to make ends meet with limited resources. Donations like these make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve, and we truly appreciate your support.”

“We are grateful for the generosity of Bombas and excited for their continued partnership,” said Tom Gabriel CEO and President of United Way Westchester and Putnam. “Distributing new, clean underwear to the men and women in our communities helps advance our health initiatives through improving the health, comfort, and confidence of those in need of these essential items.”

For many, underwear is a necessity, not a luxury. They are commonly mentioned as one of the most needed but least donated items to community-based organizations.

Marjorie Troob, Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer of 914Cares spoke on the impact of the Bombas underwear donation, “Each Bombas donation from the Essential Goods for Basic Needs program has made a meaningful impact on the 914Cares Clothing+ Clothing Bank, allowing us to provide high-quality undergarments to children and individuals in need across Westchester County,” said Troob, “For those we serve, clean, comfortable underwear are more than a basic necessity—they are a source of dignity. By pairing new underwear with clothing, we help ensure that individuals can go to school or work feeling confident, cared for, and ready to thrive. Thank you for supporting our mission to help our neighbors in need.”

Other representatives from organizations relayed similar sentiments:

Hearts & Homes for Refugees works with newcomers to the U.S., who often arrive with little more than a single suitcase. More underwear is always needed, and we love including Bombas underwear in kits for newcomers – especially since they are high quality!” said Amy Robertson, Program Director for the organization.

“Our families greatly appreciate the ability to get a necessity we often take for granted. It is one less expense they all have to be worried about,” said Tamara Robinson, Early Childhood Coordinator for Westchester Jewish Community Services, “In trying times when your thoughts are on your must-haves rather than your wants, this program has allowed our families to worry less and focus on more pressing issues like their status and feeding their families.”

United Way of Westchester and Putnam is part of Bombas’ Giving Partner network of over 3,500 organizations across the United States that distributes new and thoughtfully designed clothing items to individuals at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness.
