Leaders Explore Success of Feeding United Program in Westchester

Representatives from DoorDash and United Way Worldwide recently visited Westchester County to observe the successful implementation of the Feeding United program, which has become one of the largest nonprofit partnerships with DoorDash in the United States. Daniel Riff, Head of government and nonprofit partnerships at DoorDash, and James Collins, Director of 211 Programs at United Way Worldwide, spent Wednesday, October 9, learning about the program’s operations through visits to United Way of Westchester and Putnam, Feeding Westchester, and a distribution event at theBoys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon.

Feeding United provides fresh produce parcels to 1,000 Westchester families with schoolaged children who qualify for free or reduced lunch through bi-weekly deliveries. Additionally, the program offers monthly deliveries to 1,000 seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities in Northern Westchester.

The purpose of the visit was to identify best practices that could be shared with other partners across the country, highlighting the program’s potential as a model for similar initiatives nationwide. The successful collaboration between United Way of Westchester and Putnam, Feeding Westchester, and DoorDash demonstrates how strategic partnerships can effectively address food insecurity in communities.

The program’s comprehensive approach to food distribution, combining technology with community outreach, has proven particularly effective in reaching vulnerable populations throughout the Westchester and Putnam areas, making it a standout example of innovative solutions to food accessibility challenges.
