United Way Secures 500 Cases of Water for Yonkers Housing Authority
United Way convenes partners and mobilizes supplies to help our neighbors during times of crisis. Earlier this month our help was needed when a Yonkers Housing Authority building was discovered to have a gas leak, and its gas was turned off.
While the Yonkers Housing Authority works on rectifying the situation, there are 385 apartments without drinkable water. Westchester County Government reached out to United Way in search of donations of bottled water for the residents. The same day, we secured donations totaling 500 cases of bottled water from Wegmans and PepsiCo and its partners, collectively totaling 500 cases.
“When crisis strikes our community, United Way of Westchester and Putnam stands ready to act swiftly and decisively,” said United Way President and CEO Tom Gabriel. “The recent gas leak at the Yonkers Housing Authority building presented an urgent need, and I’m proud of how quickly our team mobilized resources to help. Through our strong partnerships with organizations like Wegmans and PepsiCo, we secured 500 cases of bottled water on the same day we received the call for help. This rapid response demonstrates the power of collaboration and the importance of community support networks. At United Way, we’re committed to being there for our neighbors in times of need, providing essential resources and hope when it matters most.”
This coordinated effort highlights United Way’s vital role in our community, bridging gaps and providing rapid support when emergencies arise. By leveraging our partnerships and resources, we ensure that no one in our community faces a crisis alone. United Way of Westchester and Putnam remains committed to addressing urgent needs and fostering long-term resilience in our neighborhoods.
